It's All Happening...

Ah, the student life. I've got a slice of Domino's in one hand and Heart of Darkness in the other. Blackened plimsolls, a mysterious heart-shaped bruise and empty bottles of vodka are all I have to show from last week, but tonight is my night off and I'm taking Freud to bed with me.

Crikey, this is pretty much an outfit post! Oh well then; skirt vintage Sandy Starkman, vintage Rolling Stones tee, Balenciaga jacket and Nike high-tops borrowed from a stranger.

Booted Not Suited

My toes used to reside exclusively in ballet pumps or knee high flat leather boots. Doc martens were popular with 'alternative' music types ie. outdated, or young children for their 'sturdy' tear-proof, water-proof qualities. So why on earth do i suddenly find myself lusting after a pair of hobnailed desert boots and retro Nike high-top trainers? But for once, unlike bulky shoulder pads which, as a returning trend, are entirely unexplainable, or harem pants, which I wore round India for no other reason but modesty and called my 'saggy nappies', these shoe styles are amazingly practical. They are the cool clubber's footwear of choice, a wipe-clean, dance-all-night shoe that simply sweeps all those Topshop Boutique platforms completely off the board.

PS: I couldn't go without mentioning the insane Ava 'Burberry-esque' topshop boots, utterly a la Grace

At Home with Dree

I have been turning my drab uni room into a creative wonderland, so I thought these shots from Japanese mag SPUR's July issue of Dree Hemingway in her apartment were appropriate. PS. For Dree fans, she's sporting a brand-spankingly newly peroxided mane of late, but no pictures yet.

In Absentia

First off, apologies for the sudden post drought, Eight London has become Eight Leeds this week as I have upheaved to university in the fair yorkshire town. Forgive the sporadic posting until the freshers frolicking is over.

I have been trying to keep abreast of the fashion week news however, and I was pleased to Kate looking substatially more ladylike at Philip Green's Topshop Unique party after the GQ awards spectacle.

In other fashion news, I've seen a lot of coverage of the teen-punk-wannabe-bad superdrug-dye job-meets-macbeth's witches hair at Proenza Schouler's S/S show, and I instantly identified it with what my own hair went through celebrating the Holi festival of spring in India earlier this year in March. I'm just not sure what Lazaro and Jack would think of my harem pants.

FNO Shots: What We Saw...

What We Saw...

Some of my shots from the night; I'm afraid they're not the best, as I was minus flashgun...explains the blur. My fellow blogger L of LolitaLoves and local fashionista A took to Bond Street on thursday night for Vogue's Fashion's Night Out, clocking up Topshop, Armani, Burberry, YSL, Chanel, MaxMara and Longchamp. Top spot of the evening had t be watching poseur-extraordinaire Laura Bailey in sequins and ruffs and a smouldering Daisy Lowe teasing the camera upstairs in the Chanel boutique...black tights a gogo!

W1 was teeming with well-heeled fashion queens...the late-night delivery men had their eyes out on stalks!... Whereas I was sporting a more bedraggled "dragged through the central line + luggage backwards' look, much more 'pap' than 'poseur'.

Our tired feet sought solace and that resting place was Nobu in Berkely Square with 3 more well-heeled friends. Whether it was a result of mixing my pimms and champagne, or from sitting at the top table in my cut-offs, I couldn't resist the temptation to take this opportunity to pull faces at Callum Best. God, you can't take me anywhere.

Plaits for 2010

More plait-envy, this time at S/S Alexander Wang shown in New York today. I'm a big fan of the black sheer too, but not so sure about that baseball jacket.

I'm absolutely gutted I can't go to LFW next week...it clashes with my freshers. And I have the perfect fashion week wardrobe assembled too...boo.

Photos: NY Daily News and Knightcat

Anna Wintour at Ralph Lauren last night in New York, and Alice Dellal and Daisy Lowe at Burberry's VIP pre-party last night in London. I saw Alice and Vogue's Emma Elwick hot-footing it down Old Bond Street last night, while features editor Harriet Quick pulled a raffle at Mulberry and Kate Phelan styling models Erin O'Connor, Laura Bailey and Daisy in the Chanel boutique for a live shoot...it was chaos!

I'll post my photos from last night soon.

Thursday, September 10

It has been a rather harangued 24 hours. Yesterday from the wee hours, armed with a clipboard and a bag of shortbread, I was directing removal men, whilst simultaneousy trying to arrange the logistics of getting down to London for fashion's night out, and then booking flights for a weekend in the Vaterland plus locating missing boyfriend, last seen in Perthshire. And no, I don't have a Blackberry, I can manage very well without, Thank you. At 3, the removal men, having run out of 'witty' sexist gags, slunk off to watch the football, and exhausted and dusty, I came home to manically pack and finish my photoalbums for Vater and attempt once again to navigate university registration via 'online portal.' Surprise, surprise ALL my modules clash and every time I get to the final and 7th online step and click 'complete registration', the screen flashes up angrily 'ERROR! ERROR!'. I give up. What happened to the days when you could turn up, stand in a queue and fill out your name and address on a form and then get on with it? Sod it, I'm going to bed. But no, there is one more urgent task to be completed today. A 1000lb (well almost) sofa has to be carried into the house and up the narrow stairs. At 10pm. By 11, I'm back on Amazon, tracking down more french literature texts; I've given up looking for the 'correct' edition, now, anything will do, even if it's 30 years old. Click add to basket. Now, I can go to bed.

I feel like a holiday, so here are some photos from the Europe leg of my trip earlier this year. Enjoy the weekend.
